Dear campers, families, and community:

We love you. And we miss you. A few weeks ago we announced we would have a multi-week series of activities for youth. But we think it is irresponsible on our part to go on with Fierce Flix Festival as planned, without engaging in the dialog about anti-Black racism and directly supporting Black lives in our community. Over the next few weeks, we will use our channels to elevate Black voices, particularly those of Black filmmakers and Black youth.

We will also be sharing any media independently made by campers – so if you’re making videos on your own, Fierce Flix, send them our way!

If you are a musician who would like to allow youth access to your music to create music videos, please email us at We will be drafting a document of music resources for youth makers.

If you are a youth maker who is not on our mailing list, but would like access to these resources, please let us know!

Additionally, we will be compiling youth-centered media making tutorials and resources, so that you might make movies on your own. Your voices matter, and we hope you continue to show up on screen and behind the camera.

We will use this summer to focus on the future of camp and the future of trans, nonbinary, and female youth led media making in Asheville. This future must foreground Black voices, visions, and leadership. We are dedicated to doing the work to dismantle the white supremacy in cinema and in our organization.

Please reach out to us if you have suggestions on how to make the best use of our resources to do this. Community collaboration is the heart of Fierce Flix.

In love and solidarity,
Fierce Flix Team

2020 Camp Cancellation Announcement

It is with a heavy heart and the utmost concern for the safety of our campers, their families, and our local and global community that we are cancelling Fierce Flix Summer Camp 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis.

While we are sad that the magic of camp that can only coalesce in person will have to wait until next year, and while we miss you all greatly, we are so grateful for you – our Fierce Flix family.

Please reach out with any questions you may have about camp cancellation.

Love, Team Fierce Flix

We can’t wait to see the films you make!

FierceFlix is a summer film camp open to trans, non-binary, and female youth ages 8-16. No experience is necessary and we supply all the video equipment!  No student will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Over the course of a week, campers will work in groups to write, direct, shoot, and edit music videos for LOCAL BANDS! The music videos will premiere at a public screening at the end of the camp. Each day, campers will attend video shoots, filmmaking instruction, workshops, and a mini-screening and Q&A with a filmmaker from a marginalized gender group.  Throughout the week, campers are encouraged to work together, support each other, and foster one another’s unique creative abilities through positive reinforcement. Our workshops include screenwriting and storyboarding, cinematography, editing, optics and lights, gear 101, HERstory of filmmaking, gender in media, visual literacy, and more!
